CHINA Pilot 4.

 THE PILOT

Pilot 4 is located in Alar, in southern Xinjiang. It consists of four farms covering an area of 16 hectares. Water shortage is a restricting factor for the development of agriculture in southern Xinjiang, whilst the excessive use of fertilizers causes additional problems. Appropriate water and fertilizer management in salinized and alkaline land to secure crop yields are the main problems that remain to be solved. The pilot introduces advanced strategies and technologies for more efficient water and fertilization management, soil quality improvement, and the social‐economic analyses and policy recommendations under different scenarios for the new agricultural practices.
